ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The site is the visual culmination of a month-long collaborative project. During October, 2008, performance artist Guillermo Gómez-Peña, photographer RJ Muna, curator Chuck Mobley and several members of La Pocha Nostra including Emma Tramposch, Violeta Luna and Roberto Sifuentes, researched the borders between performance and photography at SFCamerawork Gallery (www.sfcamerawork.org) in a series of performative photo shoots involving audience members and invited guests from the San Francisco community. La Pocha Nostra provided a collection of costumes, wigs, hats, shoes and artifacts along with a crew of trans-cultural stylists to assist the audience in trying out different looks. After each event the photographic set and props remained on site with a selection of images projected on the backdrop. Over the month, the mis’en scene was altered by the artists. Ultimately, the accumulative nature of each event created a layered “theater of absence” that remained in the gallery for the exhibition’s duration. The result was an amazing photo-portfolio contained in this website designed by web-mistress extraordinaire: Suzanne Stefanac.
